If you, or someone you know, has experienced or witnessed sexual misconduct, it is important to get help as soon as possible. Remember, it is never the fault of the person who experiences any form of sexual misconduct, and it is never OK.
The Bloomington campus and community has resources to help and support you or anyone who has experienced sexual misconduct. We can help you get immediate medical services, report the incident, find support, and learn about IU’s policies.
We understand that seeking help when you have experienced sexual misconduct can seem frightening and overwhelming. You might not even be sure what you want to do. That’s okay. You are still encouraged to seek medical help as soon as possible to check for injuries and collect evidence in case you do decide to pursue prosecution. There are several options to find medical care.
If you are a member of the IU community, IU Sexual Assault Crisis Services (SACS) can assist you with whatever you need. SACS has specially trained counselors ready to help you with your crisis 24 hours a day. They can:

If you are an IU Bloomington student or a student’s spouse or dependent, you can get help at the Student Health Center.
The health center has specially trained nurses, called Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, available to make sure you get the right care and collect evidence for a sexual assault kit to help with any police investigations. Call ahead for SANE exams.
The Student Health Center is located at 600 North Eagleson Avenue (at Tenth Street), across from the Wells Library. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The emergency department at IU Health Bloomington Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help you. Like the IU Health Center, the hospital has specially trained nurses, called Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, available to make sure you get the right care and collect evidence for a sexual assault kit to help with any police investigations.

If in your day-to-day life you are unable to avoid continued contact with the person who hurt you, you can request a change in academic, living, transportation, and/or work situations.
The Office for Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy provides Confidential Victim Advocates who can help you with interim living arrangements and schedule changes. Your request will be reviewed by the appropriate people and may be granted if it is reasonable, even if you haven't reported the incident.

The Confidential Victim Advocates within the Office for Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy are specially trained advocates who can connect you with available resources on and off campus, assist in obtaining interim measures for coping with daily life, assist you in the applicable conduct process, and address your academic and other university-related concerns.

Bloomington’s Protective Order Assistance Partnership provides free assistance for individuals seeking civil orders of protection from the court, safety planning, and referrals for additional assistance; legal advice is not provided.
Anyone is eligible who has experienced domestic violence, intimate partner violence, dating violence, sexual abuse, sexual assault, stalking, and similar offenses.

There are several resources on campus and in Bloomington that can help you with legal advice, representation, and seeking protection orders.
If you need legal advice, Student Legal Services can help. Attorneys and law students provide legal assistance and representation to students free of charge, including walk-in consultations and assistance with filing applications for protective orders after sexual assault. In matters involving two students, information about how to seek legal protection will be provided, but legal representation cannot be provided.
